Simon Weston Charity Dinner

Following months of planning, the long awaited Apollo Swimming Club Charity Dinner took place on the evening of Friday 3rd November 2017 at the Haynes International Motor Museum where the guest of honour was the Falklands War Hero Simon Weston. Simon received a standing ovation at the end of a very inspiring after dinner talk.

During the evening the guests enjoyed a fantastic meal and were entertained by a very talented young singer. They played heads or tails and there was a traditional auction as well as a silent auction and a raffle. Some of the brilliant prizes either bid for or won during the evening included a holiday in Spain, tea at the House of Commons, a visit to the home of Lord and Lady Fellowes where Lord Fellowes (Creator of Downton Abbey) will be present to answer questions on the subject as well as a personal tour of Sherborne Abbey to include a view from the Abbey roof as well as a day with the Royal Navy plus many more.

Involved with the club since it’s early beginnings, she has served on the Committee as Publicity Officer during which time she went out to local schools giving talks about Apollo and also initiated our involvement in the regular Library displays which have become an annual event although she is better known to our members past and present as somebody who has always been there to help at our sessions and events in anyway required. Weymouth boat trip 15th June

We set off for Weymouth to be at the harbour at 10 o'clock, to take a boat trip. The boat, called "My Freedom" was designed to carry disabled people. We did a spot of fishing up to Portland Bill and round to Chesil Beach. We arrived back to port at 4 o'clock. The whole day was enjoyed by all.
