
On Saturday 24 July at the Lions Fete we raised £256.75 for club funds. Many thanks to those of you who supported us by donating cakes, books, jigsaws and things for the tombola.

We won 12 bronze medals, 6 silver medals and 1 gold medal. We all had to swim at our very best as we were such a small team but had a very enjoyable time and we all feel very proud of what we achieved.

The seasons sailing started on Sutton Bingham reservoir on the evening of Thursday 8th April and will now continue through until September on most Thursday evenings (except during coaching staff’s holidays). Please note that there will be no sailing on 13th May as our sailing coach is on holiday.
The traditional Easter Raffle took place at sherborne pool on Tuesday 30th March with 20 prizes going to lucky winners and helping to boost club funds. Thanks to all the ladies who helped organise this.
The Spring Into Action Day held annually at the Royal Bath & West Show Ground was held on Sunday 25th April this year, was attended by Apollo and was a great success. Thanks to our President who agreed to drive our minibus (due to illness of the original driver) to the event at the very last minute!
We have managed to recruit another couple of volunteer drivers recently
with the help of the Yeovil Volunteer Office with other volunteers showing
potential interest. A huge welcome to Owen and Thomas we hope that you enjoy
your driving and become involved in wider aspects of the club. Also many
thanks to the local volunteer bureau who are always very supportive of
Apollo.
At the recent interclub gala that took place at Plymouth on 25th July Apollo came 3rd overall with our Junior team finishing 1st.
Special congratulations go to Graham Owen who achieved a personal goal by completing the 4 length adult race and finishing 3rd.
Also well done to James Suchet who swam his first ever gala finishing with a gold medal in the 4 length and a bronze in the 1 length races.
At the annual 'Mendip Mallard' Gala held at Street on 9th May we came 2nd with both our adult and junior teams being 'pipped' by just a couple of points but a very enjoyable day was had by all those who attended'. Whilst we are inundated with ADULT members wishing to swim in the remaining gala's for this year our junior teams of boys and girls are still very lean.
Mary Barker retired as Membership Secretary, at this years AGM, after 32 years on the clubs Committee. The whole club would like to extended their most grateful thanks to her for all her loyal dedication during that time. Mary is planning to stay heavily involved with the club, in the future, and will continue her cashiering duties at Sherborne on Tuesday evenings.
Apollo fielded a team 14 swimmers at the recent Keynsham gala and came top again. Many thanks to the two Jackies for organising everything.
Over £500 pounds was raised by our team in this years Lions Club Swimathon held at Sherborne of which over half will go to Apollo.

The above event was the conclusion to the 2008 interclub gala season and was
enjoyed by all. Thanks to all those who took part or helped in any way
whatsoever during the day. We are now looking forward to our annual club
gala and Christmas party which will take place on Sunday 14th December 2008
at the same venue.
Apollo Swimming Gala Success
The Yeovil Apollo Disabled Swimming Club finished 2nd
out of 6 teams at a recent swimming gala at Plymouth.
8 individual gold medals, 7 silver & 5 bronze were won.
Our team relays also had success in the women's and junior races, both teams
bringing home gold.
In addition to our medals our youngest swimmer Juliette Gullis was awarded
the Lee Cummins Endeavour Trophy as she has only learnt to swim this year
and took part in the four length race.
We would also like to give a special mention to Brian Lane who has been a
valued member of our swimming team and reached his personal goal of
achieving 100 medals. Well done Brian.

We set off for Weymouth to be at the harbour at 10 o'clock, to take a boat trip. The boat, called "My Freedom" was designed to carry disabled people. We did a spot of fishing up to Portland Bill and round to Chesil Beach. We arrived back to port at 4 o'clock. The whole day was enjoyed by all.
